Cybersecurity risks are everywhere

There is no question that there is a serious need for cyber security education right now. Learning about cyber security can help protect your information and prevent your company from facing major consequences in the future. Phoenix TS offers courses that can help you do just that. Their online Cyber Security Awareness course provides a general overview of cybersecurity and how to protect systems while teleworking. The course tackles how to recognize cyber attacks and the correct actions to take when an attack has occurred. Those who participate in the course will learn about different types of cyber attackers, who they attack and their motivations for attacking. After that, students will be introduced to common cyber-attacks for teleworkers. For instance, the students will be able to view real life examples of phishing, watering holes, and man in the middle attacks. These real-life examples will demonstrate ways to identify these different attacks so that teleworkers know what it is that they are looking for. Finally, the students will learn about defenses for teleworkers and incident response.

Unfortunately, we do not know when social distancing will end. The spread of the COVID-19 virus has made teleworking the new norm. It is important that you stay informed and ensure that you and your company stay protected.

Network or Systems Administrator

If you opt for a career in network administration, you’ll earn around $82,050 annually, according to BLS. Initial certifications you’ll need include CompTIA Network+, Cisco’s CCNA and Microsoft’s MSCA. As you move up, add vendor-agnostic certifications like CompTIA Linux+, Server+ and Cloud+, as well as vendor-specific certifications from AWS, Google Cloud, IBM, Red Hat and VMWare.

After leaving the hotel industry, David Portner was unemployed for a long time and didn’t have the necessary skill set to compete in an advancing technological climate. He began studying in a tech bootcamp and obtained his first certification, CompTIA Network+.

“Having that certification enabled me to advance my training, and I subsequently earned the Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator certification. Those two certs got my foot in the door at a global cloud hosting company, where I have been the last four years, with one promotion into my current role,” said Portner, who is now a Linux systems administrator at Rackspace. “I am currently studying for more certifications, in particular the AWS certs, to keep current and competitive. Obtaining industry recognized certifications is a surefire way to enter the field and be recognized as an IT professional serious about their career.”

Influencing the Trajectory of Technology

Integration, On the surface, integration hardly even seems like a trend. It’s simply something that gets done in order to make all the pieces work. But that’s exactly the shift that’s taking place—rather than integration being an afterthought, it is gaining critical importance as a company’s digital footprint is expanding. Businesses are building multi-cloud architectures and digitizing more processes than ever before, which leads to a wide array of solutions from a wide array of vendors. Without prioritizing integration, this variety of tools will actually have a negative effect on productivity. The skills needed for integration include not only the technical know-how for tying everything together but also the behavioral knowledge needed to create efficient workflow.
AutomationThe ultimate goal for efficient workflow is automation. After all the pieces have been connected, there is the potential to automate routine process steps and allow the workforce to focus on more innovative tasks. Like integration, automation has been around for a long time. However, the current tools for automation are dramatically different than they were even a few years ago. Using cloud systems as a foundation opens the doors for tools tied to cloud platforms. Artificial intelligence and robotic process automation offer tremendous power to IT professionals. And smart contracts of the future may use blockchain to further drive automated procedures. Automation is not a single product or project; it’s the combination of several technologies and disciplines.

The Impact of Automation in Cybersecurity

Malicious attacks aren’t just becoming more frequent—they’re becoming smarter, more costly, and more of a threat to businesses of all sizes.

The average cost of a data breach for U.S. companies last year was $8.2 million, up from $3.5 million in 2006, according to a Ponemon Institute study sponsored by IBM. As technology solutions evolve, bringing more automation and innovation, the risks are only getting greater.

“Data breaches are one of those ugly things that no one wants to talk about, yet they are a harsh reality that we all have to deal with and a new normal in cybersecurity,” said Corey McReynolds, managing consultant of professional services at Avertium, during the ChannelCon Online session, The Impact of Automation in Cybersecurity: The Good, the Bad and the Human.

Increasingly, emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) are having a big impact on the automation of cybersecurity, especially around behavioral analysis, which is helping businesses build better defenses against cyber threats, McReynolds said.

Security+ Exam Costs

While opportunity costs are likely more important, the dollar cost of the Security+ is worth considering as well. The cost of the Security+ exam (SY0-501) in the US today is $339. Of course you will also need to account for training resources as well. In many cases the cost of study materials outstrips exam costs.

Looking for Security+ training from a CompTIA-approved partner? Check out our CompTIA Security+ video-training course!

We know these sort of articles usually end with an “it depends” sort of answer. That makes sense because it is true, but more concrete responses can be beneficial. So, with the disclaimer that it does depend and every situation is different, we’ll make a few specific suggestions.

If any of these apply to you, then the Security+ is probably worth it:
You’re an entry-level IT pro looking to shift to a cybersecurity career.
You work in IT and want foundational knowledge of the cybersecurity landscape.
You want to do government or contract work that requires the Security+.
You know you want to go into security, but don’t know where to start.

EC-Council CND certifications

By demonstrably meeting DoD standards, the CompTIA Cloud+ and EC-Council CND certifications now gain greater clout within the IT community at large. This move further solidifies the significance of passing these challenging exams — and makes certified individuals even more valuable, regardless of whether an employer involves itself with the DoD.

Both these certifications have a heavy emphasis on cybersecurity. As global trends continue to show the vital importance that security plays in the digital age, we can expect to see analogous moves to promote education in the field. Likewise, this makes it a safe bet for professionals who want to further their careers.

Ultimately, this demonstrates that the DoD, just like most other enterprises, is undergoing a seismic shift in its IT infrastructure. The future is the cloud. As organizations become increasingly aware of the benefits that centralized cloud computing brings to the table, we’re seeing a corresponding rise in demand for qualified professionals.
That’s why we care about certifications like Cloud+. These badges of honor show that IT pros have what it takes to meet organizational needs as they become more reliant on cloud computing.

Install a Better Terminal Emulator, Code Editor and Font Set

The three I’ve chosen below are the ones I use the most, but you may prefer alternate or additional ones depending on your needs. For example, you may wish to install additional Linux management tools or integrated development environment (IDE) software.
iTerm is a feature-rich and fully customizable terminal emulator that replaces the limited one that comes with macOS (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app). You can download the iTerm app from https://www.iterm2.com. Next, you should move the downloaded iTerm2 app to your /Applications folder and create a link to it on your dock for easy access.
Visual Studio Code is arguably the best text and code editor for Linux administration and development. In addition to being fully customizable, Visual Studio Code boasts many different features and troubleshooting tools that make it equally attractive to Linux administrators and developers. You can download the Visual Studio Code app from https://code.visualstudio.com. Next, you should move the downloaded app to your /Applications folder and create a link to it on your dock for easy access.
Nerd Fonts provides a font set that is better suited toward Linux administrators and developers compared to the default font set provided by macOS. You can use Nerd Fonts in any app that allows you to customize the font set, as well as within macOS itself. You can install Nerd Fonts using the following brew commands:

brew tap homebrew/cask-fonts

brew cask install font-hack-nerd-font

Friends of Bob’ Describe His Influence, Impact

Several so-called “FoBs” or Friends of Bob, including several fellow IT Hall of Fame inductees, spoke in the CahnnelCon video about Stegner’s impact and influence on their careers and the IT industry.

“Bob has the ability to surround himself with successful, highly motivated people and his commitment to the reseller community for more than 30 years is a true testament to serving others,” said Steve Harper, retired from Network Management Group, a Hutchinson, Kans.-based solution provider, and a 2012 IT Hall of Fame inductee along with other founding members of Ingram Micro’s famed VentureTech Network. “His service to major corporations, reseller businesses, and individuals in the IT community has been greatly appreciated by all. He’s a good man, a great father, a mentor to many, and a true go-giver. Bob Stegner is a true people person. I remember one time when I had major surgery back in 1999, Bob came to the Mayo Clinic here in Phoenix and sat with my wife as I came out of surgery. I’ve never forgotten that true act of friendship and kindness.”

Stegner was well-known in solution provider communities for his commitment to SMBs, but also for his sense of humor—often taking the stage in costumes, each more garish or over-the-top than the previous one, a trait remembered by Jane Cage, semi-retired from Heartland Technology Solutions, a Joplin, Mo.-based solution provider and fellow VentureTech founder and IT Hall of Fame inductee,

“Congratulations on a career that stretched from coast to coast. And I have to say there’s never been anyone in all of my IT associations that’s worn a toga any better than you have,” Cage said.

Ted Warner, founder and consultant at Connecting Point Greeley, and fellow VentureTech Founder/IT Hall of Fame inductee, took time to reflect on how much Stegner meant to his business—and to many more through the years.

How do you study for the A+ exam

Take the opportunity to review your questions. And responses. You may find that after seeing the whole test bank you may want to answer something differently or make a change. Often one question will shed light on another you can fix it. Having said that do not click through the questions making arbitrary changes.

When you are satisfied you can end the test and get your grade. You will be asked some demographic information and questions about your experience at the site.
MPORTANT: What you need to stay away from

Avoid using any study material obtained from unauthorized parties. Stay AWAY from:

Brain Dumps, Cheat Sheets and anything of questionable legality and even more questionable quality!

Understand that your main worry may not even be as much the “questionable legality” as the unquestionably poor reliability and quality of those sources. Rest assured that sites that push illegal materials to save money on content development are not going to spend any money on editorial control… We have seen brain dumps labeled A+ materials for 1001 & 1002 while the content was based on content written for exams 801 & 802 (that is two versions back – obsolete over obsolete!). The user could be wasting untold hours of study before finding out. Worst yet, go up for the 1001 or 1002 exams with a guarantee to fail.

Now, back to the questionable legality angle of this. Here’s the kicker: Any candidate found out, by CompTIA, to have used a brain dump, will forfeit his/her A+ certification and will receive a lifetime ban on all CompTIA exams! Because all this stuff happens online it is not as hard as it may seem for CompTIA to find out.

CompTIA Cloud+ (CV0-002)

The Cloud+ certification exam (CV0-002) reflects the growing importance of cloud computing for today’s organizations. It covers topics such as cloud deployment, cloud management, and migration — and, most crucially, cloud security. Professionals need an in-depth understanding of encryption standards, certificate and key management, tunnel protocols, access control technologies for cloud computing models, and how to automate continuous improvement within organizational cybersecurity postures.

The Benefits of Having Qualified Employees

If you already have employees who handle networking technologies, you might wonder why additional training is necessary. CompTIA Network Certification does more than just train employees well, although it certainly does do so.

The Certification Program expands by showing participants how to install networks, configure them and create adequate security measures for them. After completion, just some of the job titles for candidates could include IT cable installer, network security expert or help desk technician.

In addition, it is important to remember that your networking experts are often the people who interact most with clients, or who are sent to offices on the job to handle installation, upgrades or security tests.

Once you’ve determined that your business’ employees could benefit from additional training, it is time to hone in on a program that will be most effective. The CompTIA Network Certification Training Course takes place over five days, and it will traditionally be held onsite during normal business hours.

Technical Support with a CompTIA A+ Certification

If you are, you should learn more about the CompTIA A+ Certification Exam. In order to obtain the CompTIA A+ Certification, you need to take and pass two exams: the CompTIA A+ Essentials Exam and the CompTIA A+ Practical Application Exam. The CompTIA A+ Essentials Exam measures the competencies of entry-level IT workers and assesses one’s technical understanding of computer technology, networking and security as well as one’s communication skills and professionalism. The Practical Application Exam expands on the knowledge and skills identified in the previous exam; this exam takes a more “hands-on” approach where troubleshooting and tools must be applied to resolve problems in the different scenarios.

Both of these exams consist of 100 questions. Each exam lasts 90 minutes. The CompTIA A+ Certification will be yours only if you score a minimum of 675 on the CompTIA A+ Essentials Exam and a minimum of 700 on the CompTIA A+ Practical Application Exam. So, make sure that you prepare well. If you’re interested in having the best instructors train you for these exams, then come to Ashford Global IT (AGIT). There, not only will you have experienced instructors provide you with the necessary skills but you will also have accredited materials on-hand to help you study and prepare for both exams.

Introducing the CompTIA Cybersecurity

With the upcoming release of the CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+) exam on February 15, 2017, CompTIA will enter uncharted territory. For the first time, a vendor-neutral CompTIA cybersecurity career pathway will exist for IT professionals to achieve cybersecurity mastery, from beginning to end.

CompTIA CySA+ fills the skills gap between CompTIA Security+ and the CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) exam. Until now, many CompTIA Security+ certified professionals waited until they gained at least 5 years of IT security experience before sitting for the CASP exam. Either that, or they branched into vendor-specific exams, such as VMWare, Cisco or Microsoft.

CompTIA Security+ certified professionals can take the next step by pursuing CySA+. It’s a new certification that assesses the skills needed to apply behavioral analytics to the IT security environment to improve the overall state of IT security. Tools, such as packet sniffers, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Security Information Event Managers (SIEM) are used in this job role. After the seminal Target attack of 2014, the IT security analyst or cybersecurity analyst job role has gained more importance. These skills are now essential for most organizations.
